The mountain
妙高山 東麓 (the east foot of Myōkō-san)
- Landform
- The runs are on the east foot of a stratovolcano with a horseshoe collapse caldera and a lava dome sitting in the middle of it. The dome went up about 5,800 years ago. You ski the outside of the ruin, a long way below the 2,454 m top.
- Rock
- The rock is andesite and basaltic andesite lava with its own debris, Holocene at the top and bottom both. This is the youngest ground on JapowDB: material that came down inside the last ten thousand years, recent enough that the slope has not had time to be cut up.
