The mountain
斑尾山 (Madarao-yama) 1,382 m
- Landform
- A stratovolcano that stopped erupting about half a million years ago. That is long enough for erosion to round the whole thing off, and it is why nothing here feels like a cone. The lifts run to within 32 m of the summit.
- Rock
- Andesite and basaltic andesite lava with its own debris, middle Pleistocene, and the same top to bottom. The whole mountain is one volcanic pile, worn smooth.
