The mountain
手稲山 (Teine-yama) 1,023 m
- Landform
- Teine is a volcano from the start of the Quaternary and the lifts go to the top of it. Its north side ends in a 450 m wall. Whether that is a collapsed summit or a landslide scarp depends on whom you read. Either way, you ski the other side.
- Rock
- Andesite lava and pyroclastic rock, the same at the top of the lifts as halfway down. Under all of it, altered Miocene andesite and green tuff make up most of the height. The volcano is a cap on something considerably older.
