The town's own hospital, and the designated first-line emergency hospital for what is a tourist town. Orthopaedics is here, but on Saturdays only once or twice a month, and surgery is currently suspended (its MHLW page), so a weekend skiing injury may need the hospitals in Minamiuonuma or Uonuma. Anything beyond first-line goes on to the trauma centre at Uonuma. Outpatient note on the MHLW page: patients with cold symptoms (fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat) are sent to the fever clinic after reception. Paediatrics on Thursdays only on the second Thursday of the month. Surgery is currently suspended. Orthopaedics on Saturdays irregularly, once or twice a month. Ophthalmology on Monday and Thursday afternoons is in principle for booked patients only, and on Saturdays irregularly, once a month. Dentistry by appointment in principle, on Saturdays twice a month. Check the hospital's website (https://yuzawa.jadecom.or.jp) for the latest. Masks are asked for inside. Closed days on the MHLW page: apart from dentistry, closed every Wednesday afternoon and every Saturday afternoon; dentistry is in principle closed two Saturdays a month; surgery is suspended; closed over the new year (printed as 1/29 to 1/3).
Outpatient note on the MHLW page: some clinic days are for booked patients only (where consultation hours are listed but reception hours are blank, it is booked consultations only). Some clinics run every other week, or on set days with a patient limit; check the hospital's website (http://www.minamiuonumahp.jp/). Closed days on the MHLW page: closed Nov 1, and Dec 29 to Jan 3.
Required Without a referral letter you pay an extra ¥7,700.

A first visit without a referral letter is charged a 7,700 yen selected-care fee. Expect long waits. Afternoon clinics are fully by appointment in every department; paediatric vaccination and infant check-up bookings are by phone on weekdays 13:30-15:30. Closed days on the MHLW page: new year closure Dec 29 to Jan 3.
An orthopedic clinic in Kandatsu itself — the district the ski area is named after — and it opens on SATURDAY, which the town hospital only does in the morning. For a wrist or a knee on a weekend this is the nearest specialist answer in Yuzawa. From website

Backcountry policy
There is no gate system here and no legitimate way out of bounds. GALA's own notice states that skiing outside the courses is prohibited because of avalanche and getting-lost risk, and that under no circumstances may you ski past the poles or nets that mark them. Entering the slopes on foot, to climb or to film, and flying a drone, are all banned as well.

Nearest emergency hospital
Two tiers, and which one you need depends on how bad it is. Yuzawa Town Hospital in the town centre is the designated first-line emergency hospital and carries orthopaedics. Anything serious goes to Uonuma Kikan Hospital, about 30 km away in Minamiuonuma, which runs a combined critical-care and trauma centre 365 days a year, around the clock.

Pediatric care
Yuzawa Town Hospital lists paediatrics. Out of hours, and for anything serious, paediatric emergencies go to Uonuma Kikan Hospital, which takes emergency patients around the clock.

Cost, insurance and medicines
Japan's National Health Insurance does not cover tourists — hospitals bill the full cost and generally expect payment upfront by cash or card. Ordinary travel insurance often excludes off-piste and backcountry rescue; dedicated mountain-rescue insurance exists, so check your policy before you ride.

Some common medicines are restricted in Japan — e.g. codeine-containing products, pseudoephedrine above set limits, and ADHD stimulants — and may require advance permission to bring in. Check the MHLW guidance before you travel.
